Even in non-free societies, spots of freedom can be found. In Soviet Estonia, a greenhouse could be considered one of them: a status symbol decorating a successful person’s garden, a device giving some independence from dysfunctional food supply chains, perhaps a window of architectural expression – yet also an enslaving duty of labour.
