In the Morning, Women Pick up the Potato Salad, and Their Men from under the Table

It was a sleepy morning after a large family get-together – could be someone’s fiftieth birthday, or a silver wedding anniversary. Lots of singing, dancing, eating and drinking had taken place. We kids had slept in the attic and stayed up late.
Women were cleaning the tables, wrapping up the bits that were still edible. Some men were found sleeping under the table. They growled when their wives tried to wake them up. Slowly, the room was restored to an orderly condition.
